Thoughts about Black Saturday:
"One Year On, it sounds like a long time. But it feels like yesterday when we had that unforgettable 48.8 degree day. I cannot imagine what it was like at the fires, but I can imagine the spirit of the community on that day. Australians have a wonderful way of showing their mateship and support for one another. And the words 'She'll be right' is an amazing suggestion of resilience. Having emigrated from South Africa, I am proud to be a part of our wonderful community."

Mottos:
- If it is to be, it's up to me
- Think BIG
Thoughts about Black Saturday:
"I took the kids to Lake Mountain 18 months ago, and stopped at Marysville on the way. The scenery was breathtaking, the township was buzzing and it was very difficult to get a park. I was back in Marysville in early November 2009, and then the true impact of the Black Saturday fires hit me. People's lives, businesses and communities have been turned upside down. This community and their surrounds will never be the same. From my living room, the impact of the fire was huge, but I still had no idea what these fires had truly done. Like most others, I donated, and I even went to the MCG Concert, but I am now only starting to understand the true impact of the fires and why it is important not to forget the communities that continue to be effected One Year On"

Mottos:
Thoughts about Black Saturday:
"I was worried about my mate Steve Griffith, from Collingwood
Athletics Club. We waited some 12 hours before we heard he was ok.
Phone lines were down, and we had no idea where he was.
It was naturally a great relief that he and his family and property
(in King Lake) were all fine. I feel for those who had losses on
the day, and hope that their pain will be eased by our
loving community”

Thoughts about Black Saturday:
“My sister (Kerrie) and her husband (Kristian) are CFA volunteers of a small brigade in Victoria. They have shared many stories of the Black Saturday fires and the role of the CFA. Brigades have to do a great deal of fundraising to operate smoothly. Those brigades affected by Black Saturday continue to struggle due to the clear obliteration of their communities. I hope that the people of Australia will see this as a great opportunity to give to these great CFA communities.”
